Wijk aan Zee ist von Dünen umschlossen. Nördlich der Ortschaft erstreckt sich über 5.000 Hektar die nordholländische Dünenlandschaft, eine offene Dünenlandschaft mit einigen bewaldeten Abschnitten, in denen viele verschiedene Pflanzen, Insekten, Säugetiere und Vögel leben. Diejenigen, die Glück haben, können sogar einen Blick auf einen Fuchs erhaschen.
Autos sind in diesem Bereich tabu, aber für Radfahrer und Wanderer ist ein ausgedehntes Netz von befestigten und unbefestigten Wegen angelegt .
Alles in allem ist das Dünenreservat Nordholland ein Naturschutzgebiet mit einem einmaligen Wert.
